With impeccably balanced handling, the Porsche981 & 987.2 Boxster/Cayman inc R are bags of fun to drive, with them rated as being one of the most rewarding sports cars money can buy.
However, according to specialists and those in the know, suspension problems are the second most common reason for a 981/987.2 to fail its MOT and the same fatigue seen in the rubber suspension bushes, can be seen in the engine mountings.
Prolonged and repetitive strain translated through the engine mounting in combination with the large voiding in the OE bush, results in accelerated ageing of the rubber, with bush failures often seen from around 50,000 miles onwards.
Common symptoms of aged/failed engine mount bushes are;
- Excessive engine movement
- Vague handling and responsiveness
- Wheel hop from a hard standing start
- Imprecise gear shifting
Problems like this will no doubt leave owners yearning for the smooth and precise ride that the 981/987.2 was once known for, and at over £300 for a genuine Porsche mounting bracket with bush, this week we’re pleased to announce our very own fit-and-forget direct replacement for the OE rubber bush for a fraction of the cost;
PFR57-820 Front Engine Mount Bush is made from our Yellow 70A durometer material and supplied with an anodised outer shell and supporting washers, providing a 20% increase in stiffness over the standard rubber, suiting all 981/987.2 models from 2009 onwards.
As an alternative to the full bush, we are also offering a more cost-effective and simple to fit solution for those bushes that aren’t quite ready to be replaced.
PFR57-821 Front Engine Mount Insert is also made in our Yellow 70A material and uses our effective prong design to fill the crucial areas of voiding on the OE bush, limiting movement and increasing stiffness by 15%.
This option is ideal for a quick and affordable upgrade, making it perfect for tuning on a budget!
Reducing engine/trans movement by way of upgraded inserts has the following benefits:
- Sharper throttle response
- More accurate gear changes
- Reduced wheel-hop
- Improved Traction
- More balanced on/off throttle handling
For those who want no compromise, ultimate performance for the track or motorsport, both parts are also available in our Black Series 95A durometer material.
A small increase in NVH, usually at idle, should be expected when stiffening the connecting mount between the engine/transmission and chassis. The harder the material used, the greater the NVH transmitted.
